Meetings with Senior U.S. Government Officials Including USTR
Jeong In-gyo, Head of the Trade Negotiations Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is delivering a welcoming speech on the 27th at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, during the Intergovernmental Support Council meeting for the Korean Pavilion at the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo. The Osaka Expo, organized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), is a registered expo held every five years and is scheduled to take place for six months from April 13 to October 13. Jung In-kyo, Head of the Trade Negotiations Division, is set to travel to the United States to discuss tariff issues.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 12th that Jung will visit Washington D.C. on the 13th and 14th to meet with key officials of the U.S. administration.
This visit follows the initiation of the Korea-U.S. ministerial-level consultations at the end of last month and serves as a follow-up discussion. Jung plans to convey South Korea's position on trade issues with the U.S. through meetings with senior government officials, including those from the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and discuss ways to strengthen economic and trade cooperation such as Korea-U.S. supply chain collaboration.
Additionally, he will negotiate on various U.S. tariff measures, including reciprocal tariffs, to minimize the impact on Korean companies, and request the creation of a stable investment environment to ensure the smooth implementation of Korean companies' investment projects in the U.S.
Jung stated, "We plan to conduct concrete follow-up consultations focusing on the key interests of both countries confirmed during the high-level meetings at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy minister's visit to the U.S. last month," adding, "We will seek various ways to further develop the Korea-U.S. cooperative relationship based on trust."
