Gwanak-gu Euncheon-dong Residents' Long-Awaited 'Sangdo Neighborhood Park Public Parking Lot' Groundbreaking... Completion in December 2026

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 11th for the construction of the 'Sangdo Neighborhood Park Public Parking Lot,' the most anticipated project by residents of Euncheon-dong.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor Park Jun-hee of Gwanak-gu, members of the National Assembly, city and district councilors, and about 300 residents to celebrate the start of the new public parking lot construction.

The event proceeded with a progress report on the parking lot construction project, followed by ▲guest congratulatory speeches and commemorative addresses ▲groundbreaking ▲commemorative photo session.

The 'Sangdo Neighborhood Park Public Parking Lot,' with a total project cost of 18.8 billion KRW, will be built on the first and second basement floors of the park, covering a total floor area of 4,648㎡. The parking lot will have a total of 128 spaces, including ▲4 for the disabled ▲38 expandable spaces ▲7 for electric vehicles, with completion targeted for December 2026.

The area near San 103-61, Euncheon-dong, where the parking lot will be constructed, is a densely populated area with multi-family housing and Guksabong Gymnasium, but has faced continuous complaints about illegal parking due to insufficient parking spaces.

To solve the chronic parking shortage, the district attempted to create parking lots by purchasing private land in residential areas, but faced difficulties in acquiring sites due to failed sales contracts with landowners.

Accordingly, the district accelerated the project by utilizing the Sangdo Neighborhood Park site, planning to reconstruct the park above ground and build a public parking lot underground.

With the construction of this public parking lot, the district expects not only to resolve the chronic parking shortage but also to improve the poor pedestrian environment for residents who have suffered from unsafe walking conditions caused by parking on narrow alleyways.

Furthermore, Sangdo Neighborhood Park, which will be reborn as a multipurpose park, will be newly renovated into a healing garden for residents' leisure culture, including a lawn yard and a children's playground, providing a high-quality resting space.

The 'Moraenae Park Public Parking Lot' in Nakseongdae-dong, scheduled for completion this December, is expected to contribute to resolving parking difficulties on Sharosugil and revitalizing the commercial district by creating an underground parking lot with 72 spaces and a park above ground.

Additionally, the district is accelerating the public parking lot construction project to expand parking infrastructure by conducting a design competition for the 'Haetae Park Public Parking Lot (83 spaces)' in Seorim-dong.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Securing parking spaces is essential to meet the increasing resident demand for leisure culture infrastructure,” and added, “We will do our best to create a livable Gwanak where residents can enjoy a more pleasant and smooth parking environment.”
