Laying the Foundation for New Industry Growth
Pohang City announced that officials from Binhai New Area in Tianjin, China visited Pohang on the 10th and 11th to discuss industrial and tourism cooperation between the two cities.

During their visit, Zheng Xuemei, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office of Binhai New Area, and Sun Di, Level 4 Researcher at the Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office, toured Pohang's advanced industries and agricultural sites, including POSCO, the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Certification Center, and smart agriculture facilities, seeking ways for future industrial cooperation.
In particular, at a meeting held on the 11th, the two cities discussed in depth ways to expand cooperation, exchanging ideas on establishing exchange models in cutting-edge industries such as hydrogen, secondary batteries, bio, and smart cities, as well as in education, culture, and tourism.
Binhai New Area, which has the largest cruise homeport in northern China and hosts more than 300 cultural and tourism events annually, is a region with a developed tourism industry. During this visit, the parties discussed various cooperation measures, including cruise tourism and attracting investment in tourism infrastructure.
In addition, with the opening of the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center (POEX), the city plans to attract international conferences and exhibitions and expand its global network in connection with the Summer Davos Forum hosted by Binhai New Area.
Park Sangjin, Head of the Tourism and Convention City Promotion Headquarters, said, "Pohang is continuously expanding new industries and global cooperation to move beyond the steel industry and become a future-oriented industrial city. Cooperation with Binhai New Area will serve as an important stepping stone for Pohang to establish itself as a central city in the Pan-East Sea region."
With this visit as an opportunity, Pohang City and Binhai New Area plan to strengthen practical cooperation and continue exchanges in various fields such as industry, tourism, and education, including the 2025 Pohang International Fireworks Festival and the Tianjin Summer Davos Forum, thereby laying the foundation for the growth of new industries.
