Oh Se-hoon: "Regarding the investigation related to Myeong Tae-gyun, I will respond whenever the prosecution calls"

"Only a Prosecution Investigation Can Reveal the Absurd Lies"

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon responded to a question about whether he is willing to undergo prosecution investigation regarding the allegations involving political broker Myung Tae-gyun by saying, "Of course. If I am called in soon, I plan to cooperate with the investigation at any time."

After attending a forum at the National Assembly on the 11th, Mayor Oh told reporters, "I believe that only a prosecution investigation can reveal how absurdly false the lies told by Myung and his group are."

Earlier, during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, Kang Cheol-won, former vice mayor and a member of Oh’s campaign, and Park Chan-gu, Seoul City’s political affairs special advisor, appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office the previous day and were questioned as witnesses. They reportedly explained the circumstances of their initial contact and subsequent break with Myung, as well as their relationship with sponsor Kim Han-jung. On the same day, Lee Jong-hyun, Seoul City’s special advisor for public communication, stated, "We provided a detailed explanation regarding Myung’s claims, which mix 5% truth with 95% falsehoods, during the prosecution investigation."

Additionally, Mayor Oh commented on the Constitutional Court’s impeachment ruling on President Yoon Seok-youl, who was recently released, saying, "If the Constitutional Court’s decision is made as it currently stands, there is a very high possibility that it will be criticized by the public as a hasty decision." He added, "It is necessary to allow some time and proceed with a perfect conclusion in a supplementary manner to remedy procedural defects and flaws."

Regarding speculation that President Yoon will engage in 'residence politics' by meeting ruling party figures after his release, Oh responded, "If necessary, he can meet people," and said, "The Democratic Party even issued a statement that disparaged such meetings, which is an excessive claim."

When asked whether the position of ruling party presidential candidates who supported impeachment after President Yoon’s release has weakened, Mayor Oh said, "I do not think so," and explained, "If it is a political party, it is natural and common sense to prepare for a possible (impeachment) acceptance decision."

He continued, "If they do nothing and an (acceptance) decision is made, it would be very embarrassing and they would be rushed to prepare, increasing the likelihood that Representative Lee Jae-myung, who is considered a risky and unstable candidate, will be elected," adding, "In that sense, I believe the public can understand to some extent."
