"Yoon Administration Relentlessly Entrenching Collaborators in Public Institutions"
Jin Seong-jun, the Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "The Democratic Party will push for amendments to the Public Institution Operation Act to align the terms of the president and the heads of institutions."
At the Democratic Party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on the 11th, Chair Jin said, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's entrenched appointments in public institutions are truly serious."
Chair Jin began by saying, "According to Assemblyman Park Hong-bae, there were 53 personnel announcement cases from December 4, the day after the martial law, to February 22." He added, "Under normal circumstances, since the term of the institution heads has expired, appointments should be made according to principles, but currently, the presidential duties are suspended due to the insurrection carried out by President Yoon Seok-yeol."
Chair Jin questioned, "Why rush like a house on fire after leaving the positions vacant for a long time?" and pointed out, "Isn't the intention to divide positions among collaborators of the Yoon administration to build their power base?"
He continued, "Right after the December 3 insurrection, a former spokesperson of the People Power Party was appointed as the head of the Korea Employment Information Service, and recently, it has been confirmed that a former aide to former Assemblyman Jang Je-won is a candidate for the new standing auditor at the Southern Power under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy," adding, "Moreover, appointments are being made extensively at the Korea Racing Authority, Korea Tourism Organization, and the Content Promotion Agency."
He further stated, "While refusing to appoint Ma Eun-hyuk, whom the Constitutional Court ruled unconstitutional, for the 13th day, behind the scenes they are busy with entrenched appointments of collaborators," and conveyed, "The Democratic Party has repeatedly urged to stop these entrenched appointments, but there has been no improvement at all."
Chair Jin expressed his intention to amend the Public Institution Operation Act, saying, "We will faithfully implement and take responsibility for the president's pledges through the election of executives who share the president's philosophy," and added, "Starting with Daegu in 2022, several local governments in Korea have enacted ordinances to align the terms of local heads and their affiliated institutions."
Finally, he urged, "The People Power Party and the government should stop the arbitrary personnel appointments in public institutions and join the bill amendment."
