Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 11th that, starting from the 10th, it plans to carry out dredging work on Yanghwacheon (Maeryu-ri area, Sejongdaewang-myeon) and Daesincheon (Simseok-ri area, Ganam-eup) in collaboration with the 7th Engineer Brigade of the Army (Brigadier General An Seong-chan).

This initiative is part of the government-military cooperation for disaster prevention and response support activities signed in February. It aims to secure the cross-sectional flow area of the rivers and protect citizens' lives and property from natural disasters in advance.
The sections of Yanghwacheon and Daesincheon have been areas where residents have consistently raised complaints about the risk of disasters every rainy season due to sediment accumulated over the past several years. In response, Yeoju City proposed the necessity of river dredging for pre-disaster prevention and requested cooperation from the 7th Corps, leading the 7th Engineer Brigade to support the project with personnel and equipment.
For this project, the military has deployed more than 20 soldiers from the 7th Engineer Brigade along with six pieces of equipment, including excavators and dump trucks. Yeoju City is making efforts to secure smooth working conditions, such as creating rest areas for the soldiers.
Yeoju City expects that once the dredging project is completed in March, it will be able to proactively respond to natural disasters during this summer and that it will greatly contribute to the flood control safety of the rivers by ensuring smooth water flow.
