Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon claimed that President Yoon Seok-yeol walking out of the detention center like a triumphant general was an "arrogant and presumptuous act" and insisted that impeachment must be accepted as soon as possible to end the rebellion.
He also stated that the prosecution's failure to immediately appeal the cancellation of detention was a grave mistake and urged Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung to resign immediately. Furthermore, he warned that this cancellation of detention should not influence the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial decision, which is scheduled as early as this week.
After finishing a solo picket protest at Gwanggyo Jungang Station in Suwon at 8:30 a.m. on the 11th, Governor Kim told reporters, "The ringleader of the rebellion has just walked out of the detention center like a triumphant general," adding, "In this situation, as the governor of Gyeonggi Province, I would like to engage in a tent sit-in or hunger strike, but since I am currently in office, the most effective method I can use is a solo protest before or after working hours to inform our residents and the public about the wrongdoing of the ringleader of the rebellion being released and to demand a swift impeachment." He explained the background of his protest that day.
He continued, "As he was released from the detention center after the cancellation of detention, he came out of the vehicle and waved to his supporters and clenched his fist. This act was a decision made by Yoon Seok-yeol himself, and he could not have done otherwise. It is truly an act of extreme arrogance, and we witnessed a shocking reality as if seeing the morning after an election when the winner is announced," he lamented.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon is holding a solo picket protest at 8:30 a.m. on the 11th at Gwanggyo Jungang Station.
In particular, he said, "Yoon Seok-yeol's cancellation of detention has thickened the fog of political uncertainty," adding, "I am worried about our economy. I am worried about people's livelihoods. Because of these concerns, I came out to hold solo protests at Suwon Station on my way home yesterday and at Gwanggyo Jungang Station this morning to demand the unfairness of the cancellation of detention of the ringleader of the rebellion and the prompt acceptance of impeachment."
He then said, "First of all, I think it is a grave mistake that the prosecution did not immediately appeal the cancellation of detention," and insisted, "I believe the Prosecutor General or the prosecution made a decision to support and obey the ringleader of the rebellion, who was formerly their superior, and I deeply regret this. The Prosecutor General should resign."
Furthermore, he questioned, "Which country's Prosecutor General is this, and whom does he serve?" and criticized, "It was a grave mistake not to immediately appeal the cancellation of detention based on an absurd logic that has never been applied to a single citizen of the Republic of Korea until now."
Regarding the impact of President Yoon Seok-yeol's cancellation of detention on the impeachment trial, Governor Kim said, "I think it should not affect the impeachment trial," emphasizing again, "Yoon Seok-yeol's cancellation of detention is merely a procedural issue related to a criminal case of rebellion and is unrelated to the essence of impeachment, so it should not influence the acceptance of impeachment."
Moreover, he stated, "The entire nation clearly witnessed through TV live broadcasts the scene commanded by the ringleader of martial law and rebellion," adding, "There is overwhelming evidence of illegal martial law and rebellion, and the essence of the rebellion does not change at all. Therefore, it is irrelevant to the decision to accept impeachment and I believe it will have no effect whatsoever."
