Early-stage startup-focused investment firm ZD Ventures (ZDVC) has made its first global investment since the formation of its first fund.
On the 11th, ZD Ventures announced that it had made a pre-seed investment in the U.S. startup Wavv AI, which is innovating artificial intelligence (AI) music generation technology. The investment amount was not disclosed.
Wavv AI is a startup providing AI-based music generation and intellectual property protection solutions targeting the advertising, gaming, media, and entertainment industries. Unlike existing AI music generation models based on audio samples, it significantly reduces the risk of copyright infringement through its AI model Musica, which utilizes electronic music-based MIDI. The MIDI-based AI music generation method records actual performance data, making it free from copyright issues.
Wavv AI’s founder, Ivan Lin, a Yale University graduate, has built over 20 years of expertise by participating in various music projects in the gaming and entertainment industries. He served as music director for globally renowned games such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Assassin’s Creed, and also oversaw orchestra projects. Notably, the 'Assassin’s Creed Symphony World Tour' project led by Ivan Lin won a Grammy Award in 2023. Wavv AI has also collaborated with major global institutions and companies such as NASA and OpenAI.
Based on this investment, Wavv AI plans to increase its market share in the B2B (business-to-business) SaaS (software as a service) market and further strengthen global partnerships. It also plans to continue expanding into the B2C (business-to-consumer) market.
Kim Ha-kyung, CEO of ZD Ventures, stated, "Wavv AI will be a game changer that will greatly transform the music industry through its innovative approach of MIDI-based AI music generation."
