Gokseong County, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Jo Sangrae), announced on the 10th that it is operating the "Healthy and Strong Blood Vessels, Adding Happiness" program for senior citizens at senior centers until the 31st.
This program was designed to prevent complications of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among local residents suffering from chronic illnesses and to improve self-management abilities for those with chronic diseases. It aims to enhance residents' awareness of the need for prevention and continuous management of major underlying conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. For the prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, eight senior centers under the jurisdiction of eight health subcenters were selected, and the program is held once or twice a week.
In addition, prior to the program, participants undergo InBody measurements, physical measurements, blood pressure and diabetes checks, and medication management. Various programs such as health education related to chronic diseases, laughter therapy, yoga, and foot care are also provided in parallel.
Residents participating in the program said, "It was very helpful for us to receive blood pressure and diabetes checks and self-management guidance right at the senior center, along with various physical activities like laughter therapy and yoga, which helped us manage our health on our own," and added, "We feel that our blood vessels have become stronger, and both our bodies and minds are healthier, bringing new vitality to our lives."
An official from the Gokseong County Public Health Center stated, "Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, which are the leading causes of death in our country, require early detection and treatment, so thorough preventive management is crucial," and added, "We will work even harder to promote health education and public awareness campaigns in the local community."
