Gokseong County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Cho Sangrae), announced on the 10th that the Chun-gi Seokjeon Daeje ceremony was held at both Gokseong Hyanggyo and Okgwa Hyanggyo on the 9th, with over 100 participants including local Confucian scholars, residents, and heads of local organizations and institutions.
The Seokjeon Daeje is a ritual held annually on the Sangjeongil (the first 丁 day) of the lunar months of February and August to honor the academic virtues of Confucius and other sages. It has become an important event for passing down traditional culture with the participation of local residents.
On this day, the Seokjeon Daeje began with the Jeonpye-rye, where the chief officiant offered incense and ritual wine, followed by a series of Confucian ceremonial rites including Chohonrye, Ahonrye, Jonghonrye, Bunhonrye, Eumbokrye, and Mangyerye.
Notably, at this Seokjeon Daeje, Governor Cho Sangrae of Gokseong County served as the chief officiant at Okgwa Hyanggyo, solemnly conducting the ritual and honoring its significance, while at Gokseong Hyanggyo, former headmaster Cho Heeyong personally officiated, further emphasizing the meaning of the ceremony.
A county official stated, "The Seokjeon Daeje is a Confucian heritage of high intangible value. We will do our best to ensure that Gokseong and Okgwa Hyanggyo continue to preserve and pass down traditional culture."
