The bipartisan parliamentary organization for strengthening Korea-US relations, the "Korea-US Parliamentary Alliance," held its inaugural general meeting on the 10th and officially began its activities.
The Korea-US Parliamentary Alliance held its inaugural general meeting at the National Assembly Museum in the afternoon, where it conducted a founding progress report, elected a temporary chairperson, and discussed key agenda items.
The alliance is composed of about 160 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties. The co-chairs are Assemblyman Cho Kyung-tae from the People Power Party and Assemblyman Chung Dong-young from the Democratic Party, while the secretaries are Assemblyman Cho Jung-hoon from the People Power Party and Assemblyman Kim Young-bae from the Democratic Party, reflecting its bipartisan nature.
Co-chairman Assemblyman Cho Kyung-tae emphasized, "It is significant that an official organization for exchange between the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the US Congress has been launched for the first time," adding, "We will maximize the strategic value of the Korea-US alliance through bipartisan cooperation." Another co-chairman, Assemblyman Chung Dong-young, pledged, "I will devote all my efforts to firmly strengthening the Korea-US alliance and opening a new chapter of parliamentarian diplomacy prioritizing national interests."
The alliance plans to carry out various activities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries' legislatures and expand policy coordination. It will promote practical cooperation by holding regular inter-parliamentary exchanges, joint research, and forums for the development of Korea-US relations. It will also provide roadmaps for the advancement of high-tech industries and the strengthening of global leadership, and request government-level cooperation.
People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se said in his congratulatory remarks, "When strategic solidarity at the legislative level is achieved alongside government-level diplomacy, Korea's diplomatic power can be further amplified." Democratic Party Floor Leader Park Chan-dae also stated, "The Korea-US Parliamentary Alliance will further solidify the Korea-US alliance, which marks its 72nd anniversary, and serve as a cornerstone for good diplomacy aimed at coexistence and prosperity."
