Zhongyanghui CPPCC Closing... "High Praise for Xi Jinping's Leadership Over the Past Year"

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), one of the two pillars of China's largest political event, the Two Sessions (Lianghui), and a national advisory body, concluded on the 10th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency on the day, Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC, stated at the closing ceremony of the 3rd session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, "All members highly appreciated the overall leadership and calm responsiveness of the entire Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, over the past year. They unanimously recognized that the continuation of writing a new chapter of 'The scenery here is uniquely beautiful (風景這邊獨好)' amid global changes over the past year was due to the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era."

'The scenery here is uniquely beautiful' is a phrase from the poem "Qing Ping Yue · Huichang (淸平樂·會昌)" written by Mao Zedong in 1934 when the Communist Party was being pursued by the Kuomintang, meaning to maintain confidence and keep moving forward despite difficulties. President Xi first used this phrase in 2013 to counter the "China collapse theory," emphasizing confidence in the country's development. He also quoted it in last year's Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) address.

He also said, "During the meeting, all members carefully discussed the government work report and other reports, thoroughly reviewed documents such as the CPPCC Standing Committee work report and the proposal status report, and achieved fruitful results."

The CPPCC is an organization responsible for the "United Front" (solidarity and cooperation between the Communist Party of China and other groups) in China’s one-party system led by the Communist Party of China. It has about 2,000 members. Although it is formally a top-level national body, it holds no real power.

The Two Sessions will conclude with the closing of the National People's Congress (NPC, equivalent to the National Assembly in Korea), the other pillar of the Two Sessions, on the 11th.
