Toward the Democratic Party Over 'Sim Woo-jung Impeachment':
"You Are the Real Rebellion Forces"
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon asserted that "the Constitutional Court should resume the trial to address substantive and procedural flaws related to the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-yeol."
On the 10th, Mayor Oh stated on Facebook, "There is no reason to rush to a conclusion while carrying flaws, and doing so would cause serious conflict."
He viewed the impeachment trial of President Yoon as flawed from the detention stage. Mayor Oh said, "Even in ordinary criminal trials, the defendant's right to defense must be thoroughly guaranteed, and this is even more so in a nationally significant case like a presidential impeachment trial," adding, "However, in this trial, the defense was severely restricted due to wrongful detention, and the trial proceeded under these conditions, which will remain a serious issue in constitutional history."
He continued that there were procedural defects throughout the trial review process. He said, "The National Assembly deleted the charge of rebellion from the impeachment reasons, resulting in a loss of identity of the charges, and there was no official supplementary resolution from the National Assembly regarding this," adding, "This is a serious defect that fundamentally undermines the legitimacy of the trial."
Additionally, Mayor Oh pointed out issues with the Constitutional Court accepting interrogation records as evidence without the defendant's consent and limiting witness testimony time, which infringed on the right to defense.
Mayor Oh urged, "The Constitutional Court must thoroughly address these substantive and procedural flaws even now," and "It should make a decision without any flaws, allowing sufficient time."
Meanwhile, Mayor Oh criticized the Democratic Party, which is pushing for the impeachment of Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung, saying it "looks like taking out frustration on the prosecution after being slapped by the court."
Mayor Oh said, "The fault was with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), and the court corrected it, yet they repeat the chronic disease of shaking the prosecution to rally their faction," adding, "Wouldn't it be better to honestly confess that the trial schedule of the 'father party leader' is approaching and they are anxious?" He also emphasized, "The Democratic Party, which reduces even the long-built legacy of the rule of law to a hollow form based on the party leader's interests, you are the real rebellion forces."
