Full Bloom Expected This Weekend Thanks to Mild Weather
Rich Festival Content Receives Positive Response... Event Runs Until the 16th
The 24th Gwangyang Maehwa Festival, which opened on the 7th, attracted approximately 140,000 visitors over the weekend despite the low blooming rate.
According to the city of Gwangyang on the 10th, although the festival began with a low blooming rate due to unusual cold weather causing flower buds to remain closed, a steady stream of visitors over the past three days has proven its reputation as one of Korea's leading spring festivals.
The majority of visitors were from outside the region, with group tours arriving by bus making up most of the crowd. Although many were disappointed by the tightly closed flower buds, they found comfort in the festival's rich array of content.
The 24th Gwangyang Maehwa Festival is being held for ten days until the 16th under the theme "Spring in Korea, Opening at Gwangyang Maehwa Village" and the slogan "The Moment Maehwa Blooms, The Time Spring Arrives."
This year, Gwangyang Maehwa Village was not only selected as one of the "Top 100 Tourist Attractions in Korea," but also features a wealth of content such as the "333 Golden Maehwa Hunt," Maedoli Land Experience Zone, Maedoli Goods Shop, hot air balloons, and yachts, all of which are drawing heightened interest from tourists. In addition, experiences like plum highball tasting, "Plum-packed Gwangyang Lunchbox," and "Taste of Gwangyang" are receiving positive responses for satisfying all five senses with delicious food options.
Kim Miran, head of Gwangyang City's Tourism Division, said, "We are very sorry that we could not show the most beautiful spring scenery to visitors due to the slow blooming. Fortunately, with mild weather of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius expected this week, we anticipate that vibrant blossoms will be on display during the festival period."
