This program involves 1,690 students from 77 sixth-grade classes. Expert instructors in world citizenship education visit schools to deliver customized lectures for each class on two main topics: "Understanding and Participation in Solving Global Issues" and "Respect for Cultural Diversity and Strengthening Global Communication Skills."
Students learn about climate change, poverty, and human rights issues through news videos, photos, and storytelling, and seek solutions through group activities. They also experience foods, clothing, and festivals from various countries to learn about cultural differences.
The city education office plans to apply various teaching methods such as storytelling, role-playing, and project-based learning (PBL) to encourage active student participation.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon said, "I hope that through this program, students will gain a correct understanding of international issues and grow into mature global democratic citizens."
