Imsil County: "Efficient and Proactive Response to Water Management Policies"

Implementation Evaluation of the Total Water Pollution Load Management Plan

Imsil County in North Jeolla Province will conduct an 'Implementation Evaluation of the Total Water Pollution Load Management Plan' this year to ensure balanced regional development through systematic and intensive water management.

According to the county on the 10th, the total water pollution load management system is a policy that sets target water quality levels for rivers and determines the allowable pollution load to ensure that the amount of pollution entering the rivers is managed within the permitted total load.

In accordance with the regulations of the Act on Water Management and Resident Support for the Yeongsangang and Seomjingang River Basins, the total water pollution load management system has become mandatory. Currently, the county has received approval from North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province for the fourth phase (2021?2030) of the implementation plan for total pollution load management.

Accordingly, the county launched a service last month to annually evaluate whether the items included in the yearly implementation plan?such as the allocated pollution load by unit watershed, reduction plans, and development allocation load?have been carried out.

Through this service, the county will investigate pollution sources across the entire region as of the end of December last year, calculate pollution loads for development and reduction plans, and present measures to reduce pollution emissions and achieve and maintain target water quality, thereby responding efficiently and proactively to changing water management policies.

County Governor Sim Min stated, "With the implementation of the total water pollution load management system, we will do our best to systematically manage the allocated pollution load for each unit watershed through cooperation among environmental and permit/development-related departments so that the county's development projects can proceed smoothly."
