Asan City Launches Project to Establish Infrastructure for Attachment-Type Display Industry

Establishment of a 14.3 Billion KRW Support Hub Center
Aiming to Build a Foundation for the Attached Display Industry in Asan City

Asan City Launches Project to Establish Infrastructure for Attachment-Type Display Industry Sunmoon University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building, the project site.

Asan City in Chungnam Province is embarking in earnest on a project to establish the foundation for the attached display industry.

This project is one of the seven major pledges and fifteen policy tasks of President Yoon Suk-yeol, as well as one of the pledges of Governor Kim Tae-heum of Chungnam Province for his eighth term in office.

To apply attached displays to vehicles, reliability tests must be conducted under conditions similar to actual road environments. However, due to the high cost of equipment, it is difficult for small and medium-sized enterprises to independently build demonstration facilities.

To support this, Chungnam Province plans to invest a total of 14.3 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW in national funds and 4.3 billion KRW in local funds, by 2027 to establish a support hub center in the Cheonan-Asan Station R&D cluster.

This center will play a role in enabling companies to utilize expensive demonstration equipment. The economic ripple effect is expected to be 36.3 billion KRW in induced production, 10 billion KRW in added value, and the creation of 68 jobs.

Originally, the demonstration facility was planned to be built underground on the existing site, but due to contract issues, it was relocated to the Industry-Academia Cooperation Building of Sunmoon University. Accordingly, Asan City obtained approval from the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and signed a contract with the university. The project is currently progressing without setbacks.

The Korea Automotive Technology Institute signed a private contract worth 1.66389 billion KRW with Daehan Tech Co., Ltd. through a public announcement in November last year and ordered the construction of a large temperature and humidity environmental chamber.

A representative from the Korea Automotive Technology Institute stated, "Additional construction is required due to the size of the equipment," and added, "We are currently working on the design, aiming for completion in November this year."

However, it appears that commercialization will take more time.

An official from Asan City predicted, "After installing the temperature and humidity environmental chamber, we plan to introduce additional equipment to build the chamber," and added, "The timing of commercialization will likely be determined after the first half of next year."
