A man in his 20s, driving under the influence, crashed into a taxi, causing a fire that resulted in the death of the taxi driver.

According to the police, at around 2:58 a.m. on the 10th, a man in his 20s identified as Mr. A, who was intoxicated, rear-ended a taxi with his passenger car near Jungnang Station in Jungnang-gu, Seoul.


The impact of the accident caused the taxi to catch fire, and the driver in his 60s inside the vehicle died.


As the taxi was pushed onto the road, the fire spread to nearby shops, and the fire department completely extinguished the fire at around 4:26 a.m.


Mr. A was reported to have been in a state of intoxication at a level warranting license cancellation.


The police arrested Mr. A on the spot on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and causing death by negligence under the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents, and he is currently under investigation.


On the same day in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, a man in his 20s driving while heavily intoxicated crashed into a utility pole. The Gangneung Police Station stated that Mr. B, in his 20s, is under investigation for drunk driving (violation of the Road Traffic Act).


Mr. B is accused of driving a K7 passenger car under the influence and crashing into a utility pole on a road in Ponam-dong, Gangneung, at around 1:54 a.m. that day.


There were no passengers, and Mr. B reportedly sustained injuries to his teeth and received treatment at a hospital. At the time of the accident, Mr. B's blood alcohol concentration was at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).
