Gangjin County Conducts Special Safety Inspections on Vulnerable Facilities During Thawing Season

Special Safety Inspection Conducted for 219 Sites
Focusing on Cracks, Subsidence, and Collapse Risks

Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jinwon) recently conducted a special safety inspection of vulnerable facilities for the 2025 thawing period to prevent safety accidents caused by weakened ground during the thaw.

According to the county on the 10th, the thawing period is when the ground that was frozen during winter melts, loosening the soil and increasing the risk of cracks, subsidence, and collapse. This inspection focused on 219 locations across seven categories, including steep slopes, landslide-prone areas, reservoirs, bridges, and large construction sites.

In particular, this year, to prevent safety accidents at facilities like the recent bridge collapse at the Sejong-Anseong Expressway construction site and other incidents nationwide, the inspection was conducted with the participation of private experts and related agencies for preemptive prevention.

Through this inspection, the county intensively checked for cracks and subsidence in facilities, the condition of slope erosion and rockfall prevention nets, and whether safety management plans were being implemented at construction sites. If any risk factors are found as a result of the inspection, prompt emergency measures and, if necessary, repairs or reinforcements will be carried out.

Vice Governor Lee Byungcheol said, "During the thawing period, the ground becomes weak, making unexpected accidents more likely. Through this special safety inspection, we will do our best to eliminate risk factors in advance and protect the lives and property of our residents." He added, "We also ask residents to immediately report any signs of cracks, subsidence, or ground deformation around buildings or construction sites."

Gangjin County plans to strengthen continuous facility inspections and safety management systems to ensure this special safety inspection is not a one-time event. Even after the thawing period, the county will do its best to minimize blind spots in safety through ongoing monitoring and additional inspections, creating an environment where residents can feel safe.
