Announcement of Medical Tourism Activation Plan
Gangseo Miracle Medi Center to Be Established in Magok-dong
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 10th the '2025 Basic Plan for Medical Tourism Activation,' aiming to develop Gangseo-gu into a global medical tourism hub.
The core of this plan is to expand the attraction of foreign patients and strengthen the international competitiveness of the Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone. Gangseo-gu ranks second in hospital density within Seoul. In particular, it plans to actively utilize the numerous specialized hospitals in the spine and joint fields.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon emphasized, "We will implement tailored strategies targeting regions with high medical tourism demand such as the United States and Central Asia."
The specific promotion strategies include activating public-private cooperation networking, expanding medical tourism infrastructure, and enhancing the special zone's brand awareness. The district operates the ‘Gangseo Miracle Medi Special Zone Council,’ composed of 68 experts across six divisions: medical care, attraction, shopping, accommodation, dining, and social contribution. The council will explore various measures to activate medical tourism and attract foreign patients.
Efforts will also be made to expand medical tourism infrastructure. The ‘Gangseo Miracle Medi Center’ will be established in Magok-dong to provide medical tourism information and serve as an intermediary connecting patients and hospitals.
Additionally, interpretation fees will be supported to facilitate smooth communication with foreign patients during medical consultations or surgeries. Marketing to raise the special zone's brand awareness will also be significantly strengthened.
They announced aggressive promotional strategies such as participating in the ‘23rd World Korean Business Convention’ held in Atlanta this April and advertising campaigns using major overseas media. Furthermore, fam tours (experience trips) inviting overseas medical tourism attraction organizations and influencers, as well as capacity-building training for council member institution staff, will be promoted.
Meanwhile, Gangseo-gu was first designated as a medical special zone in 2015 based on excellent international accessibility and superior medical technology, and recently, through the evaluation by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the designation period was extended until the end of 2026.
Mayor Jin emphasized, "We will accelerate the attraction of foreign patients, which had slowed due to COVID-19, and develop Gangseo-gu into South Korea's top medical tourism hub."
