Air Force Chief of Staff Apologizes for First-Ever Friendly Fire Incident... Assures It Will Never Happen Again

"We Will Do Our Best in Damage Recovery, Medical Support, and Compensation"

Air Force Chief of Staff Lee Young-soo apologized on the 10th for the KF-16 accidental bombing incident that occurred in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi Province, saying, "I bow my head and apologize for disrupting the peaceful daily lives of the people, causing injuries, and property damage due to this unprecedented accidental bombing."


On the same day at the Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, Chief Lee stated, "We deeply reflect on our shortcomings and, with a resolute determination to correct wrong practices, we will ensure that such an accident never happens again."

Chief Lee also expressed, "I offer my sincere apologies and condolences to the residents of Nogok-ri and the soldiers who suffered unexpected injuries," and added, "I pray for the speedy recovery of those still hospitalized."


He continued, "This accident was absolutely unacceptable and must never happen again," and said, "Once again, I extend my apologies to all those affected by this accidental bombing."


Furthermore, Chief Lee stated, "We will make every effort in all aspects, including rapid damage recovery, medical and psychological support, and compensation, to help the residents return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
