74.7% of Victims in Their 20s and 30s... Direct Impact on Young Professionals and Newlyweds
Daejeon and Busan Have the Highest Proportion of Young Victims Nationwide
This year, the number of victims of jeonse fraud has increased by about 2,700. Three out of four victims were young people aged 30 or younger.
According to the "Jeonse Fraud Damage Survey" submitted by Park Yong-gap, a member of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 10th, the total number of victims eligible for government support under the Jeonse Fraud Special Act was counted as 27,372 as of the 19th of last month. This is an increase of 2,704 compared to the 24,668 reported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to the National Assembly on December 23 last year, over two months.
By age group, those in their 30s were the largest with 13,350 victims. Those in their 20s followed with 7,092 victims. Victims in their 20s and 30s accounted for 20,442, or 74.7% of the total. Next were those in their 40s with 3,873, 50s with 1,881, and 60 and older with 1,173. It was especially analyzed that young people such as those just starting their careers and newlyweds suffered the most damage.
By region, Seoul had the highest number of victims with 7,399. It was followed by Gyeonggi (5,902), Daejeon (3,276), Incheon (3,189), and Busan (2,962). Narrowing down to young victims (30 or younger), the order was Seoul (5,866), Gyeonggi (4,122), Daejeon (2,845), Busan (2,496), and Incheon (2,038). In particular, the proportion of young victims in Daejeon (86.8%) and Busan (84.3%) greatly exceeded the national average (74.7%).
