Gangnam-gu Introduces AI Safety Management System in Parks for 24-Hour Monitoring

Monitoring Crowd Density, Falls, Smoking, and More
Utilized for Crime Prevention... "To Be Expanded to All Parks"

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) has selected three parks within the district as pilot sites for a 24-hour special management "Smart Park" using an intelligent selective surveillance system, and will begin special management from mid-this month. Starting with this pilot operation of the Smart Park, the plan is to apply the smart safety management system to all parks in the district, focusing on newly created or refurbished parks.

Gangnam-gu Introduces AI Safety Management System in Parks for 24-Hour Monitoring

The district designated the newly created Daemosan Healing Forest (Phase 1), Daemosan Donghaeng-gil, and the refurbished Hansol Park as pilot operation areas. The closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) in these areas are equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) software that recognizes and analyzes seven situations in real time (people counting, crowd density, falls, kickboards, bicycles, smoking, animals).

When an abnormality is detected, it immediately notifies the Gangnam Urban Control Center staff and simultaneously sends related messages to the electronic display boards on site to share the situation with nearby residents, enabling a quick response to emergencies. Additionally, various public data such as ▲user distribution by time ▲sections where illegal activities like off-leash pets and smoking frequently occur ▲visitor behavior patterns will be collected and analyzed to be used as data for efficient park management.

To this end, by mid-this month, two CCTV locations (8 units) will be installed in Daemosan Healing Forest, and AI analysis software will be applied to three CCTV locations (12 units) in Daemosan Donghaeng-gil and Hansol Park, and operations will begin immediately.

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “The smart park system using artificial intelligence reduces the burden on control staff who have to monitor 204 CCTV screens per person, while providing a more meticulous way to protect the safety of residents than before. We will continue to proactively apply innovative technologies to complete smart safety parks where residents can use them with peace of mind.”
