Sancheong County to Provide Support for Household Food Waste Reducers

Up to 400,000 KRW per Household for One Device

Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 10th that it will implement the "Subsidy Support Project for Household Food Waste Reducers."

This project, which aims to reduce food waste generated in households, targets households (including all members) residing in Sancheong-gun as of the announcement date.

The support covers 50% of the purchase and installation cost of one food waste reducer per household (up to 400,000 KRW).

The supported devices must have received quality certification from at least one authorized institution, such as the Group Standard (Korea Food Waste Processor Cooperative), Environmental Label (Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute), or K-Mark (Korea Testing Laboratory).

Products that discharge waste into the sewage system through a grinder installed in the sink are excluded from support, regardless of official certification.

An official from Sancheong-gun stated, "We expect this support to significantly reduce food waste from the initial disposal stage, thereby lowering processing costs," adding, "We will continue to do our best to support environmental conservation projects such as food waste reduction and resource recycling."

Meanwhile, food waste reducers use methods such as heating, drying, and microbial fermentation to decrease food waste, effectively reducing external discharge and preventing leachate and odors.
