Promotion of Women-Friendly Initiatives
Including Operation of Women’s Technical School and Creation of Safe Return-Home Paths for Women
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is gaining attention for implementing pioneering women-friendly policies.
Last year, the proportion of female public officials in managerial positions at grade 5 or higher reached 39.7%. This is more than 10% higher than the 22.8% in 2022 and 28.1% in 2023.
This is interpreted as the result of efforts to move away from a male-centered organizational culture and operate personnel management based on ability.
Female public officials in managerial positions at grade 5 or higher are demonstrating excellent capabilities by being assigned to key positions such as administration and safety, planning and budgeting, policy advisory, autonomous administration, as well as civil service contact departments like community service centers and housing divisions.
Regarding this, Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We are actively selecting female leaders and placing them in core roles. Going forward, we plan to assign female leaders who contribute to the development of the district to positions where they can fully utilize their abilities.”
In addition, the district is implementing a variety of women-friendly policies. Representative examples include operating a Women’s Technical School, creating safe return-home paths for women, promoting gender equality funds and local subsidy public projects, and running a Women-Friendly City Supporters program.
Among these, the Women’s Technical School has received great responses from residents. The Women’s Technical School is a project that provides various life skills education to women who have experienced career interruptions, helping them return to society. The curriculum includes training to become home repair experts and education on car maintenance.
The safe return-home path project for women is also receiving positive reviews. The district currently designates and manages 10 locations within the area, including alleys in Banghak 2-dong. These places are equipped with crime prevention facilities such as closed-circuit television (CCTV), convex mirrors, and safe bell signboards. The district supports residents’ safe return home through coordination with the CCTV integrated control center and cooperation with the Dobong Police Station.
On March 7, in celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), the district held a campaign on the first floor of Dobong-gu Office. The campaign was organized to reflect on the significance of International Women’s Day and to spread a culture of gender equality in the workplace. On that day, Mayor Oh Eon-seok and staff pledged through the campaign to create a culture of respecting and supporting each other’s rights.
