Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon welcomed the declaration of Idong-myeon, Pocheon City, where the military fighter jet accidental bombing occurred, as a special disaster area, and emphasized that all measures will be swiftly implemented to ensure the prompt recovery of the affected residents' daily lives.
On the 9th, Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "This accident clearly involves state responsibility, so the declaration of a special disaster area is natural," and added, "Especially since the Pocheon area has endured unilateral sacrifices for national security for over 70 years, the state must do its utmost for damage recovery, fact-finding, and the prompt restoration of residents' daily lives."
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province dispatched provincial government staff to the site immediately after the accident on the 6th as an initial response. Governor Kim Dong-yeon also visited the site on the 7th to console residents and requested the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to declare a special disaster area, saying, "Do not argue over city, provincial, or national funds; thoroughly support damage recovery proactively from the residents' perspective."
With this special disaster area declaration, the affected region will receive relief and recovery funds according to the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety. Accordingly, practical support for the recovery of affected residents is expected to proceed quickly.
