"1 Billion Units Needed Monthly... Emergency in the US, Now Reached Korea"

Egg Prices Soar Due to Avian Influenza
U.S. Seeks Egg Imports from Europe and Asia

The United States, currently experiencing an 'egg crisis,' is seeking to import eggs from European and Asian countries.

Bloomberg News reported on the 7th (local time) that "U.S. officials have been searching overseas for eggs to alleviate the egg shortage."

In the U.S., egg prices have surged due to reduced supply caused by avian influenza. According to the January U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) released last month, egg prices soared 53% compared to a year ago.

Bloomberg News stated that the U.S. needs to import 70 million to 100 million eggs within the next month or two to resolve the egg supply shortage.

Accordingly, poultry organizations from Poland, the world's second-largest egg exporter, as well as France and Indonesia, have reportedly received inquiries about export eggs from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the local U.S. embassy.

However, avian influenza has also caused egg shortages in Europe, including France, and recently, wholesale egg prices within the EU have reached their highest level in two years.

Thomas Bartlett, Secretary General of SNIPO, a French egg industry organization, said in an interview, "We informed the U.S. Department of Agriculture that there is no supply available in France and almost none in Europe."

Short shelf life, fragility, and more stringent export requirements compared to agricultural products also pose challenges to egg exports.

A representative of the Polish poultry producers' association said last week that they received inquiries from the U.S. embassy and "informed the U.S. side that limited transportation of raw eggs might be possible." It is reported that large-scale exports of processed egg products are also feasible.

Sudarjono, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia, said in response to U.S. inquiries, "We can export about 1.6 million eggs to the U.S. per month."

Egg producers in T?rkiye plan to export 15,000 tons of eggs to the U.S. by July. However, Turkish authorities recently introduced export taxes to control local prices.

Korea also exports eggs to the U.S. On the 7th, Gyerim Farm Co., Ltd. in Asan City, Chungnam Province, held an export ceremony and decided to export 20 tons of special eggs (11,172 trays, 335,160 eggs) to Georgia in the eastern United States. This is the first time eggs produced domestically have been exported to the U.S.
