Since January, the city office removed a total of 73,319 square meters of asbestos at 7 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 4 high schools. A monitoring team consisting of parents, environmental groups, and external experts inspected the sites, and all 16 schools received a "suitable" evaluation.
The city office plans to complete asbestos removal at all schools in the district in phases by 2026. Superintendent Lee Jeongseon said, "We will continue to proceed with asbestos removal without delay to provide students with a pleasant environment."
