Hong Nam-pyo Hopes the Tournament Will
Help Expand the Base of Table Tennis
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the '13th Changwon Special Mayor's Cup Gyeongnam Open Table Tennis Tournament' at the Changwon Football Center Gymnasium on the 8th and 9th.
Celebrating its 13th year, this tournament was hosted by the Changwon Sports Council and organized by the Changwon Table Tennis Association, with support from Changwon Special City to foster competition and unity among table tennis enthusiasts not only from Changwon but also across Gyeongnam Province.
This year's tournament featured men's and women's singles and team events, with preliminary rounds conducted in a league format followed by a knockout stage. A total of 682 participants from Changwon, 474 from 14 other cities and counties in Gyeongnam, and 100 senior players competed passionately.
During the opening ceremony, Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo welcomed the participants, saying, "I welcome all the enthusiasts who have come to Changwon to participate in this tournament. I hope this event brings new energy to table tennis lovers in Changwon and Gyeongnam, and serves as an opportunity to further promote the sport."
Table tennis is a popular sport that anyone can easily learn, regardless of age or gender. Interest and participation among citizens are gradually increasing, and the sport is gaining attention as a popular activity that helps develop quick reflexes and agility.
Changwon City plans to further vitalize sports for all, including table tennis, by hosting various tournaments and expanding facility improvements and infrastructure development.
