Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 5th that the usage inspection (completion) for the remodeling housing project of Songpa Seongji Apartment has been processed.

This is the first case nationwide of a completed 'vertical extension' remodeling project.

Songpa Seongji Apartment, the first 'vertical extension' remodeled apartment in Korea, was reborn from the existing 298 households in two buildings ranging from basement level 1 to 15 floors above ground to a total of 327 households in two buildings ranging from basement level 3 to 18 floors above ground.

Songpa Seongji Apartment is a complex of two buildings with 298 households completed in 1992. In 2020, it became the first in the nation to receive approval for a vertical extension remodeling project plan, and construction began in January 2022. POSCO E&C Co., Ltd. was in charge of construction, expanding the existing complex horizontally to increase unit sizes and vertically to add floors.

In particular, through the 'vertical extension' remodeling that added floors on top of the existing apartment buildings, the number of households was increased, reducing the economic burden on residents. The increased 29 households were successfully sold in a general sale in 2024.

Additionally, the biggest drawback of older apartments, parking issues, was improved by expanding the underground parking lot. The number of parking spaces increased from 201 to 398, creating a convenient and pleasant residential environment.

District Mayor Seo Gang-seok stated, "The completion of the Songpa Seongji Apartment remodeling project will have a significant impact on improving the residential environment of aging apartments nationwide," and added, "As many complexes in Songpa-gu are promoting projects, we will focus all our efforts on actively communicating with residents to lead to practical improvements in the residential environment."

In Songpa-gu, 13 complexes have established remodeling associations and are promoting projects. In January last year, Ogeum Anam Apartment, the nation's first horizontal extension remodeling project that increased the number of households, was completed. Currently, with active administrative support from Songpa-gu, projects are progressing rapidly at Munjeong Hyundai Apartment, Munjeong Geonyeong Apartment, and others.
