Investigation of Motive to Be Completed Before Case Transfer Next Week
Decision on Disclosure of Personal Information Expected Soon
A female teacher in her 40s, Myung, who is accused of killing 8-year-old elementary school student Kim Haneul with a weapon on school grounds in Daejeon, was arrested 26 days after the crime.
The Daejeon District Court conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing for Myung on the afternoon of the 8th and issued an arrest warrant, citing "risk of flight."
Myung, who attempted self-harm after the crime, underwent vein suturing surgery and had been hospitalized until the day before. The police secured her custody by executing an arrest warrant the previous day, completed their investigation, and applied for the arrest warrant late in the afternoon.
The dedicated investigation team at the Daejeon Seobu Police Station, which received the arrest warrant, plans to conduct additional investigations into Myung regarding the specific motive and whether the crime was premeditated, then transfer the case to the prosecution next week. It is also expected that a personal information disclosure review committee will be held in line with the transfer to decide whether to disclose Myung’s personal information.
Since the Daejeon Seobu Police Station does not have a detention center, Myung, who is currently detained at the Daejeon Dunsan Police Station detention center, did not appear at the detention hearing held at the Daejeon District Court at 3 p.m. that day. It is reported that Myung conveyed her intention not to appear to the police, judging that her attendance in court would not significantly affect the issuance of the warrant.
Myung is accused of killing Haneul with a weapon at an elementary school in Daejeon around 5:50 p.m. on the 10th of last month. During the police investigation, she confessed to the crime and stated, "I was annoyed just three days after returning to work. The vice principal prevented me from entering the class."
She also said that on the day of the crime, after the after-school care class ended, she lured the last child to leave, telling them she would buy a book, to the audiovisual room and killed them with the thought, "I will die together with anyone, no matter who they are."
