Lee Jaejong (49, former Blue House administrator) was officially confirmed on the 8th as the Democratic Party candidate for the Damyang County mayoral by-election in Jeollanam-do, scheduled for April 2.
Lee secured the nomination after a fierce runoff against Choi Hwasam. The Democratic Party held the runoff over two days, on the 7th and 8th, using a public participation method that reflected 50% of votes from party members and 50% from the general public.
With the catchphrase "The Power is Different," Lee presented campaign pledges including: ▲A prosperous rural area (innovation in agricultural and livestock product distribution) ▲Adding AI smart technology to rural welfare ▲Creating a national rest area ▲A Damyang where people stay ▲Cultural Damyang ▲A warm-hearted Damyang ▲A talented Damyang, special education district ▲An economically self-sufficient Damyang.
Specific projects to support these pledges include attracting private investment for large-scale infrastructure comparable to Everland, establishing the Damyang Art Troupe, creating a sports park, and developing the Changpyeong Food Specialization Complex and Bongsan General Industrial Complex.
Lee stated, "Based on the diverse experience and networks I gained during my time at the Blue House, I will dedicate all the strength I have accumulated to my hometown, Damyang," adding, "With the mindset that what I have learned should be shared, I will demonstrate exceptional abilities to turn expectations into reality."
Meanwhile, Lee was born in Subuk-myeon, Damyang County, and has served as an administrator at the Presidential Secretariat of the Blue House, deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party, chief spokesperson for Moon Jaein's presidential campaign in Gwangju, and head of policy media at the Democratic Party.
