Video Released by Belgium's National Railway Company Infrabel
Belgium's national railway company has released footage showing a woman attempting to cross the tracks illegally while pushing a stroller with two children.
On the 7th (local time), foreign media including ABC7 Chicago reported on the video recently released by Belgium's national railway company Infrabel, describing the act as "unacceptable."
The video shows the woman struggling as she pushes the stroller across the tracks. During the crossing, she repeatedly dropped belongings such as a blanket and a water bottle. When the stroller could not get over the track edge, the woman wrestled with it for a long time. The stroller carrying the children continuously jolted over the gravel and track edges.
The railway company released the video to emphasize the need for increased awareness amid a social atmosphere that overlooks railway safety, stating, "We often see people not following railway safety rules, but this is the first time we've seen something like this." They added, "Many people underestimate how fast trains arrive," and explained, "A train traveling at 100 km/h requires a full 800 meters to come to a complete stop. People standing on the tracks do not have time to cross quickly."
They also said, "Crossing the tracks is an act that endangers your own life and the lives of others," and warned, "(Such behavior) not only results in heavy fines but also puts lives at risk. This woman endangered even the children." They emphasized, "Safety rules are not in place without reason," and noted, "Every station has bridges and tunnels to move between platforms."
Similar accidents continue to occur in our country as well. In 2023, a man in his 60s was fatally struck by an incoming KTX train at Cheongdo Station on the Gyeongbu Line in Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongbuk Province. The accident happened while he was crossing the tracks from the upbound platform to the opposite platform. In 2022, a man in his 50s who was illegally crossing the tracks at Changwon Jungang Station on the KTX Gyeongjeon Line in Uichang-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam Province, was instantly killed after being hit by a Seoul-bound KTX train heading to Masan passing the downbound platform.
