At around 1:45 a.m. on the 8th, a fire broke out on the 2nd floor of a 13-story apartment building in Munheung-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, causing residents to evacuate and injuring two people.
Due to the fire, 55 residents living in the apartment evacuated outside, but 30 residents who could not escape in time took refuge on the rooftop and were later brought down via stairs with the help of the fire authorities.
Two people in their 60s who were in the unit where the fire started suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation, complaining of throat pain, but their lives are not in danger.
The interior of the apartment was scorched, resulting in property damage estimated at around 48 million won (according to the fire department).
The fire authorities suspect the fire originated from an electronic appliance and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
