On the 7th, the Legislative and Judiciary Committee members of the Democratic Party of Korea placed the responsibility for the series of events in which the court decided to cancel the detention of President Yoon Seok-yeol on Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, and urged the Special Investigation Headquarters of the prosecution to immediately file an appeal.
In a statement on the same day, the Democratic Party's judiciary committee members pointed out, "On January 24, the court denied the prosecution's request to extend the detention period," adding, "If the Yoon Seok-yeol case, which was handed over from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), had been immediately prosecuted, nothing would have happened, but Prosecutor General Shim gathered the prosecutors general nationwide and delayed the prosecution until late on the 26th under the pretext of discussion."
They continued, "The subject of the investigation in this case is the prosecution's Special Investigation Headquarters," and warned, "Head of the Headquarters, High Prosecutor Park Se-hyun, must stake his position and immediately file an appeal against the court's decision to cancel the detention, and must not order the release of Yoon Seok-yeol."
They also indicated that the Constitutional Court's ruling that immediate appeals are unconstitutional does not apply to this case.
The Democratic Party's judiciary committee members argued, "The cases of suspension of detention execution and bail decisions, which the Constitutional Court ruled unconstitutional, are clearly different from the case of detention cancellation."
