Worker in His 50s Injured at Pyeongtaek Bakery Factory
Finger Entrapment During Cleaning; Recovering After Surgery
An injury accident involving a worker occurred at a factory affiliated with the SPC Group.
According to SPC on the 7th, on the morning of January 22, a worker in his 50s, Mr. A, was injured in a finger entrapment accident while cleaning machinery at the SPL bakery factory in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do. SPL is a frozen dough manufacturing and sales company and a subsidiary of Paris Croissant. Mr. A sustained severe injuries resulting in the amputation of his right hand’s index, middle, and ring fingers and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The accident occurred while Mr. A was spraying water with a hose to clean rice processing machinery. The safety manual specifies that the power to the machine must be turned off during cleaning, but Mr. A was working while the machine was still operating. The machine is equipped with an 'interlock' function that stops operation if an entrapment or similar accident is detected. It is understood that Mr. A had turned off this function and inserted his hand into the machine, resulting in the accident. A colleague working with Mr. A in a two-person team witnessed the accident and called 119. Mr. A was transported to the hospital and underwent finger reattachment surgery and is currently recovering. It has been reported that Mr. A told the police that the accident occurred due to his own fault.
Previously, in 2022 and 2023, there were also incidents where employees were injured at the Pyeongtaek SPL bakery factory.
