"Cancellation of Yoon's Detention Is Appropriate... Confirms Judicial Justice"
"Gongsoocheo Must Be Held Accountable... Constitutional Court Should Review Deliberations"
The People Power Party issued a unanimous statement on the 7th welcoming the cancellation of President Yoon Seok-yeol's detention. There are calls for the court's decision to cancel the detention to also be reflected in the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial process.
Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong held an urgent press conference immediately after the court accepted the request to cancel President Yoon's detention, describing it as "an important moment confirming that the rule of law and judicial justice in the Republic of Korea are alive."
Chairman Kwon said, "Until now, the public has had to endure great confusion and anxiety due to excessive investigations with political motives," adding, "I hope this decision will serve as an opportunity to restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea and lead to national unity." Floor Leader Kwon also said, "I truly welcome and feel fortunate that the constitutional principle of non-detention trial has been realized, albeit belatedly," and added, "The court made a reasonable judgment, even if late."

They also criticized the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Gongsoocheo), which executed the detention warrant. Floor Leader Kwon pointed out, "The court concluded that Gongsoocheo's unlawful and improper execution of the arrest and detention warrants was wrong," and said, "The Gongsoocheo chief and all related officials must take responsibility for this." Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo also criticized on social media, stating, "Gongsoocheo, which has caused much controversy and led to national division, must bear appropriate responsibility."
Regarding the possibility that the prosecution might appeal against the cancellation of detention, they clearly opposed it. Floor Leader Kwon warned, "If the prosecution immediately appeals simply because it differs from past practices, it would be abandoning its mission as an institution protecting citizens' human rights." Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo wrote on social media, "If the prosecution immediately appeals and it is dismissed, it could become a problem for the entire prosecution organization," and insisted, "Gongsoocheo, which has no authority to investigate treason, and all investigations conducted by the prosecution are invalid, so the prosecution should immediately withdraw the indictment."
They urged the Constitutional Court, which is about to deliver the final ruling on the impeachment trial, to fully review the deliberations. Senior Spokesperson Shin Dong-wook of the People Power Party emphasized in a statement, "The Constitutional Court must thoroughly examine whether there was any forced legal interpretation or political considerations involved, and whether any elements undermining the constitutional order existed." Floor Leader Kwon said, "Personally, I expect that the court's stance will be fully reflected in this impeachment trial process."
They also supported calls to dismiss the impeachment trial itself. Assemblyman Kim Ki-hyun wrote on social media, "The Constitutional Court must immediately halt the illegal impeachment trial procedure against the sitting president and promptly dismiss the fraudulent impeachment." Assemblyman Yoon Sang-hyun added, "Since contamination of key evidence and testimonies regarding President Yoon's treason charges has been confirmed, the Constitutional Court must dismiss the impeachment petition against President Yoon," and wrote, "This is the path to realizing judicial justice in the Republic of Korea."
