These employees saved the life of a man in his 40s who suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed while waiting to order at the Starbucks Pungmu Station DT store on January 26th through prompt action.

At the time, Starbucks partner Ha Hyojin, who was taking the order, immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after noticing the customer's breathing and consciousness fading. It was just 8 seconds after the customer collapsed. At the same time, partner Jeong Taeu called 119 emergency services, secured the airway, and continued CPR together with partner Park Jihoon. Other customers present at the scene also assisted them.

While the three partners performed CPR for 8 minutes, 119 emergency responders arrived, and the collapsed man was transported to the hospital and recovered his health.

Im Jiseong, a firefighter at the Gochon 119 Safety Center of the Gimpo Fire Station who responded to the call, said, "The 'golden time' in cardiac arrest situations is 4 to 5 minutes, and bystander CPR is crucial. The employees were performing chest compressions accurately at the time." He added, "The patient was in ventricular fibrillation, and the emergency responders took over and performed additional CPR including electric shocks. Afterwards, the heart rhythm returned, allowing safe transport."

He further stated, "If accurate and swift measures like this case are taken, the survival rate of patients can be increased."

The Gimpo Fire Station plans to recommend partner Park Jihoon, who performed CPR continuously for 6 minutes during the emergency, for the 'Heart Saver' award. The 'Heart Saver' is given to heroes who contribute to saving the precious lives of cardiac arrest patients.
