Sign Memorandum of Understanding on the 7th
to Cooperate for the Successful Hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo
The 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee (Co-Chairs: Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do; Jung Kimyung, Mayor of Yeosu; Park Sugwan, Chairman of YC-TEC Co., Ltd.) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at 11 a.m. on the 7th at Seoul City Hall, agreeing to cooperate in various ways to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
The signing ceremony was attended by Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon, Kim Yungrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do and Co-Chair of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, Jung Kimyung, Mayor of Yeosu, and Park Sugwan, CEO of YC-TEC Co., Ltd.
The Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at 11 a.m. on the 7th at Seoul City Hall, agreeing to cooperate in various ways to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. Through this agreement, the two parties will collaborate on various initiatives for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, including cooperation to vitalize island tourism and joint pre-marketing efforts between the two cities.
In particular, Seoul plans to operate the Ara Waterway cruise between Yeouido and Deokjeokdo in Incheon in the second half of this year, and is considering a pilot operation of a coastal cruise section connecting the Ara Waterway to Yeosu in conjunction with the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
Additionally, Seoul will actively support promotional activities by setting up a promotional popup zone for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo at the Regional Tourism Antenna Shop, scheduled to open in July inside the Seoul Urban Architecture Exhibition Hall in front of Seoul City Hall. Furthermore, the organizing committee will operate a Seoul municipal government pavilion within the Island Expo venue during the 2026 event.
Jung Kimyung, Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated, "This agreement marks the first partnership with a domestic city, serving as the first step to garner national interest and a platform to promote the event to the world."
Park Sugwan, Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee, commented, "It is meaningful to sign an agreement with Seoul, the representative city of Korea," and added, "We ask for everyone's support to ensure the successful hosting of the Island Expo."
Meanwhile, under the theme "Islands: Connecting the Sea and the Future," the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo will be held for two months from September 5 to November 4, 2026, at Dolsan Jinmo District, Gaedo, Geumodo, and the Yeosu World Expo site in Yeosu.
