Kickoff of Master Plan Establishment Service
for the Future Aviation Mobility Cluster
in Cheonsuman B District
Chungnam Province has begun to draw up a long-term blueprint for the next ten years to secure leadership in the future aviation mobility industry.
On the morning of the 7th, Chungnam Province held a kickoff briefing for the 'Master Plan Establishment Research Service for the Future Aviation Mobility Cluster in Cheonsuman B District, Chungnam' at the provincial government’s main conference room.
The meeting was attended by Vice Governor Jeon Hyungsik, Director of Industrial Economy An Ho, officials from the province, Seosan City, and Taean County, as well as representatives from the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Chungnam Technopark, Chungnam Institute, Hanseo University, Korean Air, and about 30 other experts. The session included an overview of major progress and objectives, a kickoff report, discussions, and collection of opinions.
In particular, Kang Hoje, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, who is in charge of the research service, presented the research implementation plan, and various opinions were exchanged among experts and representatives from private companies and institutions.
This research service, jointly promoted by the province, Seosan City, and Taean County, will run for 12 months until February next year. The spatial scope covers the Bunamho area in Cheonsuman B District, and the temporal scope spans a decade from 2026 to 2035.
Cheonsuman B District, where Seosan and Taean meet, is an area where the province is actively attracting national projects in the advanced aviation sector. Near the Seosan Bio-Wellness Special Zone, the province has secured the 'Green UAM-AAV Core Component Test and Evaluation Infrastructure Project (2024-2028, 32 billion KRW)' under the Space Aviation Agency’s public contest and is currently implementing the project.
Additionally, the area near Taean Enterprise City has been selected as the site for the Agency for Defense Development’s 'Unmanned Aerial Vehicle R&D Runway Construction' project, with a feasibility study underway. If the project is confirmed, the National Defense Future Aviation Research Center, dedicated to UAV R&D, will be established by 2032.
The province plans to foster the Cheonsuman B District as a hub for the advanced aviation industry through the creation of the future aviation mobility cluster.
The research service, led by the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, will focus on developing policy directions and strategies related to the aviation mobility industry.
The province intends to fulfill its role as a metropolitan local government by overseeing the comprehensive plan and establishing a master plan with the participation of cities and counties.
Vice Governor Jeon Hyungsik stated, "Revitalizing the local economy starts and ends with how we attract private sector investment. We will deeply reflect on what companies need, what systems and infrastructure are required, and what strategies and tasks experts propose, and incorporate these into this comprehensive plan."
