A Total of 1,258 Workers to Be Assigned to 225 Farms This Year
Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 7th that 66 foreign seasonal workers arrived from Laos on the 6th and were assigned to 23 farms.
Foreign seasonal workers are introduced to address the shortage of agricultural labor caused by the decline in farm population, aging, and rising labor costs, aiming to provide a stable supply of agricultural labor.
Following the arrival of 736 foreign seasonal workers last year, Yeoju City plans to bring in 1,258 workers this year and assign them to 225 farms, which is expected to greatly contribute to resolving the labor shortage issue in local farms.
Additionally, before deployment to farms, pre-training and a direct communication network with interpreters were provided to help workers adapt early, and education on employer compliance for the protection of workers' human rights was conducted.
A Yeoju City official stated, “We will strive to ensure that stable agricultural labor can settle early through continuous improvement of the employment environment for foreign seasonal workers and the operation of a management system.”
