Department of Occupational Therapy at Kyungnam University: All 5 Students Pass 7th National Assistive Technology Specialist Exam

Focused Education and Clinical Practice
Aligned with World Federation of Occupational Therapists Standards

Five students from the Department of Occupational Therapy at Kyungnam University recently achieved the remarkable feat of all passing the 7th Assistive Technology Specialist National Examination, which was administered by the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute.

An Assistive Technology Specialist develops, maintains, and customizes various commercial assistive technology devices to remove physical and mental difficulties and inconveniences experienced by people with disabilities and the elderly in their daily lives. In this year's national examination, 431 people participated nationwide, with 370 passing, resulting in a pass rate of 85.8%.


The Department of Occupational Therapy at Kyungnam University, established in 2021, has focused on cultivating field-ready professionals through a curriculum and clinical practice that meet the standards of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and advanced practice environments. As a result, the department produced its first graduates this year, all of whom passed the 52nd National Examination for Occupational Therapists.


Since last year, the department has been authorized by the Ministry of Education to increase its admission quota by 20 students, now recruiting a total of 40 students, and in 2025, a master's program in the general graduate school will be newly established.


Shin Jungil, head of the Department of Occupational Therapy, said, "Our department operates a high-quality curriculum that enables students to obtain not only the occupational therapist license but also the assistive technology specialist license and the sensory development rehabilitation qualification (Ministry of Health and Welfare) simultaneously, providing students with a wide range of career and employment opportunities."
