Daejeon City to Provide 400 Household Food Waste Reduction Processors

Up to 70% of the Purchase Cost Subsidized, with a Maximum Limit of 700,000 KRW per Unit

Daejeon City to Provide 400 Household Food Waste Reduction Processors

Daejeon City announced that it will support 400 household food waste reduction processors to reduce food waste generated at home and to provide a convenient and hygienic disposal environment.

If you purchase a reduction processor, 70% of the purchase cost will be subsidized, up to a maximum of 700,000 KRW per unit.

The eligible products must use processing methods such as drying or microbial fermentation and must have obtained at least one quality certification among Group Standard, Environmental Label, K-Mark, or Q-Mark. However, products that discharge food waste into the sewage system by grinding, even if certified, are excluded from support.

Any head of household with an address registered in Daejeon City is eligible to apply, and only one unit can be supported per household.

After applications are received, recipients will be selected in order of the largest number of household members and then by the length of residence in the relevant district. Selected recipients must first purchase and install the unit at their own expense and then apply for the subsidy.

Last year, the city supported the installation of 480 household food waste reduction processors, resulting in a 65.5% reduction in food waste generation.

Moon Changyong, Director of Daejeon City’s Environmental Bureau, said, "Since more than 70% of food waste is generated at home, distributing food waste reduction processors can help reduce food waste at the disposal stage."
