Gwangmyeong City "Get up to 100,000 KRW for reducing your car's mileage"

Recruiting 160 Participants for the Carbon Neutrality Points Program

Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province will recruit 160 participants on a first-come, first-served basis from the 10th for the 'Carbon Neutrality Points' system in the automobile sector.

'Carbon Neutrality Points' is a project led by the Ministry of Environment and operated by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute to reduce carbon emissions. In the automobile sector, incentives are provided based on the reduction in driving distance.

Owners of non-commercial passenger cars or vans with 12 seats or fewer registered in the city can participate. However, eco-friendly vehicles such as electric, hybrid, and hydrogen cars are excluded from participation.

Applicants can sign up as members on the 'Carbon Neutrality Points Automobile' website and apply by attaching supporting documents such as vehicle license plate and cumulative driving distance photos. Incentives of up to 100,000 KRW are provided by comparing the average daily driving distance before participation and the average driving distance during the participation period. Detailed calculation methods can be found on the Carbon Neutrality Points Automobile website.

Separately, participants in the energy sector of the Carbon Neutrality Points system are recruited year-round on the 'Energy' website. Incentives are given according to the reduction rate when electricity, water, and city gas usage are reduced in households and commercial facilities. Any household head or member residing in the city, or actual users of commercial facilities, can apply.

No Jin-nam, head of the Carbon Neutrality Division of Gwangmyeong City, said, "Reducing automobile driving distance is a small practice, but the effect on greenhouse gas reduction is significant," and added, "We hope many citizens will participate in practicing carbon neutrality."
