Up to 19 Million KRW for Continuous Residence After Birth Registration
(1 Million KRW Birth Congratulatory Payment, 300,000 KRW Monthly Child-Rearing Support for 60 Months)
Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will ease the criteria for childbirth incentive payments to reduce the economic burden on families with newborns and support child-rearing.
The county announced on the 6th that it has prepared a revision of the "Uiseong-gun Childbirth Incentive and Support Ordinance" containing these details and will hold a legislative notice period until the 20th.
The core of the revision is to relax the previous condition that both parents and children must reside in Uiseong-gun, allowing support if at least one parent resides in Uiseong-gun.
Last year, reflecting the results of a resident survey that identified child-rearing costs as the biggest difficulty, the county increased the amount of childbirth incentive payments. However, as the eligibility requirements were strengthened, some families were unable to receive benefits. Accordingly, the county is promoting the ordinance revision to ease the payment conditions by reflecting residents' opinions.
Once the revised ordinance is implemented, if at least one parent has resided in Uiseong-gun for six months prior to the birth date and continues to reside there after registering the birth, they can receive up to 19 million KRW (1 million KRW birth congratulatory money, and 300,000 KRW monthly child-rearing support for 60 months).
Kim Ju-su, the mayor of Uiseong-gun, said, "We hope this ordinance revision will reduce the economic burden on families with newborns and provide benefits to more families," adding, "We will do our best to create an environment conducive to having and raising children."
Meanwhile, detailed information on the revision can be found on the Uiseong-gun website and the Local Autonomy Ordinance Information System. After completing the ordinance revision process, it is scheduled to be promulgated in the first half of the year and take effect from July 1, 2025.
