KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters (headed by Kim Youngjin) announced on the 6th that it received a commendation from Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do, in recognition of its contribution to revitalizing local tourism through the operation of local railway travel packages.
The Local Love Railway Travel initiative is a policy established through agreements between the central government, local governments, and KORAIL. It offers discounted rail fares to tourists visiting areas with declining populations, aiming to stimulate the economies of these regions.
KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters signed a business agreement with Hampyeong-gun and provided various support measures such as temporary KTX stops at Hampyeong Station (six times a day) and information and promotional activities during the Hampyeong Butterfly Festival. Through differentiated train packages, it successfully attracted visitors from the Seoul metropolitan area and other regions to Hampyeong-gun, earning positive evaluations for its impact on local economic development.
Kim Youngjin, head of KORAIL Gwangju Headquarters, stated, "We will continue to develop and operate railway travel packages that coexist with local communities, striving for mutual growth with the region."
