'Stoner' Becomes a Reverse Bestseller Again After Two Years
Han Dong-hoon's book 'The People Come First' topped the Kyobo Bookstore comprehensive chart upon its release. The proportion of female buyers was somewhat high at 57%. The largest age group of readers was those in their 60s at 15%, followed by readers in their 40s and 50s.
Singer Lee Chang-seop's essay 'The Right Person' entered the comprehensive chart at number 2 upon publication. As an idol member and a popular YouTube content creator, it received intense interest starting from online pre-orders. Female readers accounted for an overwhelming 93.8% of purchases. The majority of buyers were in their 20s and 30s.
Interest in John Williams' novel 'Stoner' has grown, propelling it to number 18 on the comprehensive chart. When it was featured on Hong Jin-kyung's YouTube channel in 2013, it became a reverse bestseller. After about two years, a shorts video editing that content gained attention, making it a second reverse bestseller. Sales from the fourth week of February to the first week of March (2.26~3.4) increased 17-fold, ranking it first in the foreign novel category. Additionally, with the release of director Bong Joon-ho's film 'Mickey 17,' the original novel 'Mickey 7' rose 73 places to number 24 on the comprehensive chart.
In the finance sector, interest in cryptocurrencies, coins, and exchange rate trends stood out. O Tae-min, an authority on cryptocurrency in South Korea, saw his book 'Geopolitics and Bitcoin in the Trump Era' reach number 7 on the comprehensive chart immediately after publication. This book explores the impact of the transformation of the U.S. global strategy on the world's economy and politics from a geopolitical perspective. Professor O Tae-min argues that at the center of upcoming changes, alongside the crisis of the dollar system and the rise of 'Trumpism,' lies Bitcoin. Oh Geon-young's 'The Great Shift in Exchange Rates' also ranked 13th, supported by interest from male readers in their 30s.
In the Yes24 comprehensive bestseller chart for the first week of March, John Williams' novel 'Stoner' newly claimed the top spot. Sales surged 30 times (2989%) compared to the previous week (2.20~26).
Following that, former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon's 'The People Come First' took second place, and 'Words of the Ultra-Translated Buddha,' which gained attention through idol Jang Won-young's recommendation, ranked third. 'Berber's Healthiest Day,' written by a health influencer with 250,000 followers, entered at fourth place. This book achieved 2099% of its funding goal in the Yes24 book funding held from February 6 to 23, ranking first in the health hobby category. Han Kang, the 2024 Nobel Literature Prize winner, followed with 'The Boy is Coming' at fifth place.
'Dual Brain,' which contains knowledge necessary for the rapidly changing AI era, ranked tenth. Buyers aged 40 to 50 with an interest in economics accounted for 65.7% of purchases. Macroeconomics expert Oh Tae-young's 'The Great Shift in Exchange Rates,' which forecasts global currency trends, was placed twelfth.
The new release 'Geopolitics and Bitcoin in the Trump Era' ranked seventh overall and first in the economy and management category. With the full launch of the Trump administration's second term, buyers aged 40 to 50 with interests in social, political, and economic fields accounted for 65.7% of purchases.
