Dongdaemun-gu Strengthens Infertility Treatment Support Including Frozen Egg Assisted Reproductive Technology Assistance

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 6th that it will strengthen support for infertile couples to help stabilize their emotional well-being and reduce their financial burden.

The district provides one-on-one psychological counseling and horticultural activities, and has invited Deputy Director Joo Chang-woo of Dongdaemun-gu Maria Hospital to offer special lectures on ▲fertility preservation ▲infertility treatments.

This year’s special lecture will be held on April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Dongdaemun-gu Agasalang Center (10 Dapsimni-ro 1-gil, 2nd floor).

To further ease the financial burden on infertile couples, the district also supports various treatment costs including ▲fertility testing support (up to 130,000 KRW for women, up to 50,000 KRW for men) ▲Korean medicine infertility treatment support (herbal medicine costs for 3 months, up to 1.2 million KRW per person) ▲frozen egg assisted reproductive technology support (up to 1 million KRW per session, up to 2 sessions per couple).

In particular, starting this year, the number of infertility treatment supports per childbirth has been expanded to 25 times. Additional medical expenses can be supported in cases where treatment is discontinued due to empty follicles or immature eggs. Age-based differential support has also been abolished.

In 2024, the district supported a total of 1,951 infertility treatments. Through this, 228 babies were born, accounting for 15.6% of the total births in Dongdaemun-gu in 2024. This means that one out of every 6.4 newborns was born through infertility treatment.

The infertility support policies provided by the district can be applied for online via Government24 or e-Health Center, or by visiting the Dongdaemun-gu Agasalang Center in person.

Detailed information about ‘Dongdaemun-gu Infertile Couple Support’ can be found on the Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center website.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Infertility is a challenge our society must address together,” adding, “We will do our best to help residents give birth to healthy children.”
