Cheonan Dongnam Fire Station Fire Captain Shin Sangbae Wins Main Prize at KBS119 Awards Sergeant Shin Sangbae, recipient of the KBS119 Award Grand Prize

The Chungnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 6th that Shin Sangbae, a fire lieutenant affiliated with the Cheonan Dongnam Fire Station 119 Rescue and Emergency Center, has been finally selected as the recipient of the Grand Prize at the 30th KBS119 Awards.

The KBS119 Award is jointly hosted by the National Fire Agency and KBS to honor firefighters who have devoted themselves to protecting the lives and safety of citizens at fire, rescue, and emergency scenes.

Established in 1996 following the collapse of Sampoong Department Store in 1995, the award celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, with over 400 firefighters and rescue personnel having been honored to date.

Lieutenant Shin has been recognized for his outstanding response and dedicated rescue abilities at various scenes, including multi-family housing fires, rescues from isolated accidents, traffic accident rescues, and saving individuals attempting suicide by jumping.

In 2022, he contributed to enhancing the safety of rescue personnel and improving on-site response expertise by operating a task force dedicated to rescue equipment based on the Gwangju apartment collapse accident, and by researching and developing the first stabilization and rescue techniques for collapsed buildings using supports in the fire service.

Additionally, as a veteran rescuer holding certifications such as Level 1 Life-saving Specialist, Level 1 Chemical Accident Response, and Level 2 Emergency Medical Technician, he has served as an instructor during various rescue training sessions, providing education to enhance practical response skills among rescue personnel and actively mentoring junior colleagues.

Lieutenant Shin said, "I am receiving this great award on behalf of my colleagues who have worked hard together at the scene," and added, "I will continue to do my best, always thinking that I am working for everyone in need of our help and for my own family with every dispatch."

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on April 1.
