Drone Delivery Service to Launch in Boryeong Island Area... Selected for Chungnam Province Project Drone Delivery Area Map

Drone delivery workers are emerging to solve the poor logistics issues in the island regions of Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province.

On the 6th, South Chungcheong Province announced that a drone delivery project for island regions, utilizing Wonsando and Ocheon Port in Boryeong, was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "2025 Drone Demonstration City Development Project" contest, securing 480 million won in national funding.

With the addition of provincial and municipal funds to the secured national funding, a total of 780 million won will be invested in the island drone delivery project, which will be jointly promoted by the province, Boryeong City, Boryeong Maritime Police, and a consortium of five drone companies.

The target areas for the drone delivery project include nine islands near the Wonsando hub: Janggodo, Godaedo, Sapsido, Sodo, Hyojado, Chudo, Yukdo, Hayukdo, and Wol-do.

Main components include: ▲ Drone delivery of daily necessities, public medical supplies, and waste medicines ▲ Public service for maritime safety patrols using drones ▲ The "Love Basket" project (side dish drone delivery) for vulnerable groups.

In addition, to make it convenient for island residents to order parcels, a public delivery app will be developed and distributed, and a call center will be operated for elderly island residents who are not familiar with online ordering.

Im Taekbin, head of the Provincial Land Management Division, said, "By introducing drone delivery to the existing ship-centered and limited logistics system, island residents will be able to experience fast and convenient delivery services. We aim to successfully carry out this demonstration project and expand the delivery area to all island regions in the province as well as urban parks, ultimately commercializing drone delivery."

Meanwhile, the province is expanding various drone policy projects not only for island delivery using drones, but also for building digital tidal flat maps, creating drone parks, and real-time disaster and accident drone video broadcasting with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, in order to enhance residents' convenience and safety.
